Kindifarm also offers a range of lessons for schools suitable for all ages (K-6):
- Kindifarm – an introduction to farm animals
- Making Friends – strategies to build positive relationships and combat bullying
- Farmyard Maths - applying mathematical skills in a practical setting
- Animal Art - observe, touch and draw real animals
- “Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand”. Chinese Proverb
“We invited Kindifarm to our school and thoroughly enjoyed the visit and learning experiences offered to our children. The two farmers we have been lucky to visit us have been great! They have shared knowledge with our children at appropriate levels. The range of animals is fabulous. The way our grounds are left after the visit is a credit to the farmers. I would openly recommend Kindifarm to anyone wishing for this kind of experience. Kindifarm is affordable to our families. Ideally we would love to take them to a ‘real’ farm but the cost of this is out of reach for our families.” Janet Howard, Fennell Bay Public School
Kindifarm visits are a great introduction to farm animals. Each child will have a hands on experience of new sights, sounds, smells and touches that will be complimented by our age-appropriate presentation. Sessions last from 45-60 minutes per class, adapted to fit your schedule.A typical visit includes the following activities:
- Introduction to farm animals as children walk around the pen and feed the animals.
- Bottle-feeding our baby calf.
- Questions and answers about the smaller animals, as the children sit to hold baby chicks, rabbits and ducks.
- Feed and pat the piglet. This is a good chance to feel the coarse hair of the pig in comparison to the other animals.
- Bottles feeding baby lambs and goats. This is always a favourite and it is fun to see the lambs wiggle their tails in joy.
- A brief sheep shearing demonstration where the children can hold some freshly shorn wool, smelling its odour and feeling the lanolin on their hands. We can also leave a bag of wool for use in art and craft.
- Finally we finish with a bang, when our farmer does a stock whip cracking demonstration to show the children how we muster sheep and cows with the sound of a stockwhip.
“We like the variety of animals provided by Kindifarm and the opportunity for the children to feed them. The farmers speak at the right level for our students.” Blacktown West Public School 2011
